BRUSSELS, 10th September, 2024 (WAM) -- The Court of Justice of the European Union has upheld the antitrust fine of 2.42 billion (US$2.67 billion) imposed by the European Union's antitrust authority on Alphabet (Google).

Seven years ago, the European Commission accused Google of using its shopping and price comparison service to gain an unfair advantage over smaller European competitors.

The fine is one of three penalties the European Commission has imposed on Google in the past decade for various antitrust violations, costing the company a total of 8.25 billion.

The court rejected the appeal submitted by Google and Alphabet.
